Please watch this short tutorial video General Introduction to BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment before you start using the web page:

Here are listed Going Nova VIDEO presentations about our project activities in St. Peter's care home in Stromness on Orkney, Scotland.

It shows how we bring usage of Skype to older people by Howie's Firth more social and human centered approach.

Welcome to BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment
by Alex E. Nidorfer - Wednesday, 13 July 2011, 07:11 PM

Welcome dear visitor,

we are happy to present you the BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment.

It was developed for BRIDGE – Bridging the Digital Gap for Elders – a European project funded by the European Commission in the Lifelong Learning Programme (more about the project).

The concept of BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment as modified version of Open Source software called Moodle was first time shown by Alex E. Nidorfer from Scotland company Going Nova at EU project meeting in Kirchbach, Austria between 23.5. and 24.5.2011. Afterwards began close collaboration between EU project partners KB5, Austria and Going Nova, Scotland to work on on-line video communication for distant lifelong learning.

The vision of this collaboration is to create BRIDGE project product who can answer on following problems:

- how to reach 'harder to reach older people' to get them involved in usage of computers (presented by Kennet Lindquist from TelePedagogic Knowledge Centre in Sweden)
- how to approach older people in more individial and human way whit responding more on their needs rather then push them to learn something in classical school style (presented by Howie Firth from Going Nova in Scotland). How does this looks like in practice, you can see in videos above.
- how to create something what can be usable also after the BRIDGE project is finished (as answer to problem observation made by company from Italy, Amitie)

- how to open new perspective of on-line distant lifelong learning (as answer on vision of Slovenian organisations, Ljudska Univerza Velenje and IPAK)
- how to open on-line distant education capacity whit for example the biggest non-public school in Poland, The University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz using software services from KB5.

Whit BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment we can totally concetrate just on services on demand, because to make this kind of on-line courses requires less complicated preparations as in classical school education system:

a) you don't need to hire lecture rooms (means no costs for rooms)
b) learners can be at home (as well as somewhere in nature whit laptop)
c) teacher can be at home (as weel on university)
d) everything can be more individual relax, because everybody can be on place of his own choice
e) no costs for logistic, because nobody needs to physical travel to specific place
f) as well everything can be very easy recorded (made video presentation of the course).

As such is this complete respond on Going Nova User Needs Analysis, where we come to general conclusion, that it would be the best, if we can respond to individual needs of older people, as well to approach them in more social way rather than in standard school style.

As this can be complicated in practice, we created this BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment, where is possible whit minimal costs to respond to older people by their demand. Because in this case, older people do not need to travel no where, they are not limited by time and they can choose what they want to learn.

Therefore we are using BRIDGE Virtual Learning Environment for on-line courses, what was enabled by software experts from Austrian company KB5 (especially from Peter Mayer, Senior Programmer) and initialized by Alex E. Nidorfer from Scottish company Going Nova Ltd.
